As I walked our 100-pound German Shepherd “puppy” around in the brisk air of our backyard last night (or more accurately, he walked me), it hit me. We have finally, officially, fully entered the fall season in all its glory. We won’t talk about how it took so long this year that we’re almost already to winter. No, that would be depressing. Rather, we’re going to focus on the good stuff.
And you couldn’t possibly talk about all the warm and cozy and wonderful things about fall without mentioning Thanksgiving. Can you believe it is next week? How did that happen? It’s entirely possible that the last year of this election rippled the space-time continuum or something.
But here we are, and how grateful for that!
My little family is, for the most part, healthy and happy. We’ve spent a few evenings as of late roasting marshmallows around the fire pit together, and it’s finally cold enough for my husband to concede with have entered fireplace weather (my favorite) inside.
For those reasons and so many more, fall is the season I look forward to most each year — especially as I grow older. The world seems to slow down a little, and people stop to take stock of their blessings. Can we have more of that, please? If someone finds the magical corner of the universe where it is fall year-round, I want in.
